Ghosty Notes

Your meeting history, queryable by your coding agent.

Ghosty Notes is a meeting note-taker for your Mac. It records your calls with no bot in the room, transcribes them locally, and saves plain markdown. Then Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex can search everything you have ever discussed.

Free forever, fully local. No account, no card, nothing leaves your device.

Your agent knows your codebase. It has no idea what you agreed to.

You make decisions in meetings, then rebuild that context by hand - scrolling Slack, hunting for the doc, half-remembering who owned what. The tools that could remember send your audio to the cloud and drop a bot into the call.

The bot changes the room

People hold back the moment a recording bot appears. Once it does, the conversation stops being candid.

Your data is held hostage

Cloud tools own the transcript, and gate the API your agent needs behind a Business plan.

Your agent is blind to it

The one context your coding agent cannot reach is the one you spoke out loud.

The MCP server

Ask your agent what you decided.

Ghosty Notes ships a first-class MCP server - free on every tier, not a paid add-on. Point Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex at it and your meetings become searchable context, right where you already work.

cursor

who did we promise the beta to, and by when?

↳ search_meetings("beta commitments") · ghosty-notes mcp

Three commitments across two calls: Acme (Fri), Northwind (next Tue), and Vela (end of month). Vela is the only one without a written follow-up.

3 meetings · 2 participants matched

The server exposes

  • search_meetingsby date, participant, topic, keyword
  • get_transcriptfull text of any meeting
  • list_action_itemsopen items across every call
  • mark_action_item_donescoped, append-only write
  • append_notetimestamped, never overwrites you

Writes are append-only, atomic, and logged. Your agent adds to a machine-written section - it can never rewrite the notes you authored.

Three steps. Nothing to configure.

  1. 01

    Hit record. No bot joins.

Ghosty captures the call's audio and your mic on-device. No bot joins the call.

  2. 02

    Get clean notes.

At the end, your live jottings and the transcript merge into one structured markdown file, saved to a folder you own.

  3. 03

    Query from your agent.

Ask across every meeting from Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex through the built-in MCP server.

The whole app, on your Mac.

A calendar-aware home, clean notes saved as markdown on your disk, and an ask-anything bar over every meeting you have had.

Ask anything about your meetings

Built for people who are careful about their data.

Nothing leaves your device

Local Whisper transcription and local Ollama summaries. Free mode makes zero network calls.

No bot in the meeting

Records the call's system audio with no bot in the room. No "X is recording" banner, no trust tax on the conversation.

Notes you actually own

Plain markdown in a folder you choose. Obsidian-ready. No lock-in and no export button to hunt for.

A real MCP server, free

A rich schema built for coding agents, on every tier - including free. Never a Business-plan upsell.

Bring your own model

Pro relays to fast hosted models, or plug in any OpenAI-compatible endpoint with your own key.

On the roadmap

Speaker diarization · Linux · Pre-meeting briefings

Don't take our word for it. Read the code.

Privacy you cannot verify is just a promise. Ghosty Notes is source-available, so you - or your security team - can confirm exactly what it does.

See how privacy works

Free / local

  • Audio stays on device
  • Transcript stays on device
  • Everything stays on device

Pro / cloud

  • Audio never leaves the device
  • Transcript text goes only to the model you pick
  • Training never - text is used only to answer you

Connecting your calendar

Ghosty Notes can connect to your Google Calendar so it knows which meeting you are in. That lets it name each note after the right event, attach the note to that meeting, and show who was invited, instead of leaving you a folder of untitled recordings.

To do that we ask read-only permission to view your calendars and their events. We request nothing else and cannot create, edit, or delete events in your calendar.

Your calendar information is used only to label and organise your own meeting notes. It is never sold, never used to train any model, and never shared with anyone else. Connecting a calendar is optional, and Ghosty Notes records and transcribes perfectly well without it.

Read the privacy policy

The things we will never do.

  • Never put a bot in your call.
  • Never train AI on your meetings.
  • Never cap your free local meetings.
  • Never hide the cancel button.
  • Never bill you for a bot that rejoined after you left.

We wrote these down because the category keeps breaking them.

Free is genuinely free. Forever.

Straight answers.

Is it really free?

Yes. Local transcription, unlimited meetings, and the full MCP server cost nothing and need no account. Free mode runs entirely on your Mac, so it costs us nothing to serve - there is no catch to recoup later.

Does my audio get uploaded anywhere?

No. Audio never leaves your Mac. In free mode nothing leaves at all. On Pro, only the text of the meeting goes to the model you choose - never the audio, and never to train anything.

Do I need to be technical to use it?

No. Record a call, get clean notes, done. The MCP server is there for when you want your coding agent to query your history, but it is entirely optional.

What is MCP, exactly?

MCP is the open standard that lets AI agents like Claude Code securely use outside tools. Ghosty Notes ships an MCP server that turns your meetings into something your agent can search, read, and act on.

How is this different from Granola?

Granola is cloud-only and gates its MCP server behind a $14/mo Business plan. Ghosty Notes runs locally, keeps your audio on-device, and gives you the MCP server free on every tier.

Is my data ever used to train AI?

Never. Not in free mode, not on Pro. It is written into our promises and it is verifiable, because the code is source-available.

What happens if I cancel Pro?

You keep every note - they are plain markdown files on your disk. Cancelling just turns off the cloud extras. One click, no retention maze.

Which Macs are supported?

macOS on Apple Silicon. Linux and Windows are on the roadmap.

Your next meeting could be the last one your agent can't see.
